Online Training for Experienced Foster
Parents
Continuing
Education For Idaho's Resource Families
Anytime… Anywhere...
Now there is an
alternative for busy resource families who
find it difficult to attend foster parent
training! Through online core training
programs, you can complete required training
hours from the comfort of your own home and
within your own schedule. Once training
courses are completed, all you need to do is
print the certificate of completion directly
from the website and present it to the
Resource Family Specialist upon
re-licensure.
There are dozens of
courses and topics to choose from, with new
courses being added all the time. Courses
are developed by professionals with
extensive experience in the foster care
arena and most hold a Masters or Ph.D. This
service is provided for free to foster
parents through the Idaho Child Welfare
Partnership.
How do I get
started?
There are two different websites you may use
to access on-line foster parent training
courses:
The first is the Foster
Care & Adoptive Community, located at
www.fosterparents.com/idaho.
Once on this website, simply complete the
registration form and select your course of
choice from the list provided. If you want
to know more about a course, click on the
course title and a brief description will
popup. Next, download the information, read
through your course material and take the
multiple choice test. Upon passing (80%) the
course test, download and print your
certificate and and present it to the
Resource Family Specialist upon
re-licensure. You will have thirty days from
the day you registered to complete the
course.
The second website is the
Foster Care College at
www.fosterparentcollege.com.
To register for courses from this website,
first contact your regional
university partner and they will sign
you up. Once registered, you will receive an
e-mail with instructions on how to get
started. As with the first website, you may
choose the courses you wish to take and
print your own certificate when the course
is completed and either e-mail or mail it to
ICWRTC. You will have thirty days from the
day you registered to complete the course.
Do I need an
e-mail address?
Yes. All
course communication is done through e-mail
and, on the
www.fosterparentcollege.com
website your e-mail address is also
be your login user ID. If you do not have an
e-mail address, there are many free
web-based services, such as Hotmail, Yahoo,
Gmail, etc. where you can create an e-mail
account.
My spouse and I
share an e-mail address and we both want to
register for online courses. Will this be a
problem?
It may be a
problem on the
www.fosterparentcollege.com
website if each individual wants to earn
credit for a course. On this website all
users are identified by their e-mail address
and it cannot be entered twice. Each spouse
will have to have a separate account and
e-mail address if they each want to earn
credit for the courses taken. However, you
may identify yourself as a couple, use the
same e-mail address, and receive credit for
your household.
I only have
dial-up internet. Will these programs still
work on my computer?
Yes. While it is recommended to view the
courses on a computer that has high-speed
internet access because it will be much
faster (i.e. DSL, cable, T-1), all programs
should work on a dial-up connection. Please
be aware that with a dial-up connection it
will take longer to download the courses.
