When is a good time to start using Love and Logic?

This class covers the span of early childhood through the teenage years.  It is never too early, or too late to get started, because this class focuses on how our behavior can help the outcome of the situation. This class is about teaching our children about the real world, in real world ways.  Love allows children to grow through their mistakes.  Logic allows them to live with the consequences of those choices.  This class is about raising responsible kids while building healthy relationships as loving authority figures.

Parent Project Classes

A 10 to 16 week parent training program designed specifically for parents of strong-willed or out-of-control adolescent children.

The curriculum teaches concrete prevention, identification, and intervention strategies for the most destructive of adolescent behaviors (poor school attendance and performance, alcohol and other drug use, gangs, runaways, and violent teens).

   How Does It Work?

  • Parents meet one night per week, two to three hours per night, for 10 to 16 weeks.
  • Parents attend and learn in a classroom model, to manage teen behavior problems at home.
  • Parents receive and work within an activity based 216 page curriculum "A Parent’s Guide to Changing Destructive Adolescent Behavior," available only to program participants.
  • Parent support groups are formed using the UCLA self-help support group model.
  • Program orientation: behavior modification.

Project Objectives

  • Describe the importance of demonstrating love and affection.
  • Demonstrate and utilize effective discipline methods with their out-of-control or strong-willed children.
  • Demonstrate effective methods of reducing family conflict.
  • Recognize, confront and intervene with their children's negative peer association or gang involvement.

Develop effective action plans to stop any unwanted behavior. Improve the parent-child relationship.

Contact Jefferson County Probation at: (208) 745-8244 for more information regarding class schedules.

ONLINE LIVE PARENTING CLASSES

How Live, Online Classes Work

You can hear the lectures, ask questions, and participate in the discussion, all from home! It's easy and fun! We will teach you how to participate online.

You will see the presenter and the PowerPoint presentation on your computer screen, and hear the presenter speak. Then you can speak into your microphone or type in your questions and comments. This is not a recorded class; all participants are interacting live and the class proceeds at everyone's pace.

How it works: After registering for a class, we will send you confirmation of the class, date and time. Prior to the class we will e-mail directions to our online classroom, your username and a password, along with an outline of the class.

Requirements: All you need is a computer with speakers.

Recordings of Live Online Classes

Recordings of Raising Happy Children Units 1,2, and 3 are available for $10 each. We e-mail the recording to you, usually within a few hours of ordering. Each is between 60 and 90 minutes. All you need is Media Player 9 or higher, which you can download free. If you need a certificate of completion, we will e-mail you a test, to be completed after watching the recordings.
